Head to your favorite seaside spot

When it comes to summer vacation spots, one of the most obvious choices is to go to the beach to spend some much-needed time under the sun after spending hours huddled on a desk in the campus library cramming for finals. There are a lot of options on what can be in your travel itinerary when you choose to go seaside during summer vacation.

Pack plenty of food and supplies (towel, umbrella, beach chair) to set up your own beach spot to spend a day (or more) napping on the warm sand or cooling off in the ocean. Bring your friends along so that you can play a couple of games of volleyball in between swim.

If being in the water isn’t your thing or your skin can’t handle another day full of sun, recover in the comfort of your air-conditioned lodging until it’s time for sunset. With a group of friends, snag a bonfire pit to call your own for a night. You can make s’mores, roast hot dogs, play card games, and much more depending on what your friends want to do.

Go on a cruise

This option is not exactly a one-stop vacation, but depending on the type of cruise you choose, you can go up and down the coast of a country or island hopping. There are plenty of options to pick from and while one cruise may not suit your tastes and/or budget, another one definitely will.

With cruises, you can choose to go the whole length of the cruise or get off on one of the cruise’s stops to spend more time at a place you want to spend the majority of your vacation at. You can choose to go on a weekend or a week-long cruise if that’s the only time you can find off from work, or you can choose as long of a cruise as you want.

You can pick different themes for your cruise in order to have the most control over your desired atmosphere, and even the type of crowd you want to surround yourself (a family-fun atmosphere, or the typical partying atmosphere associated with college students).

Head outdoors and go camping

After spending hours cooped up indoors for lectures and studying, reset by heading outdoors during summer vacation. Bring a couple of friends (or more) along for your camping trip, and make the road to the campsite a road trip. While going on a technology detox and making your own campsite in the middle of nowhere may sound appealing – do your research on different camping methods so that you can both enjoy and remain safe with your level of expertise when it comes to camping.

There’s always the classic option of researching different campsites and picking your favorite, or even planning out a road trip and picking different campsites that you can make pit stops at along the way. Having multiple friends come along for the camping trip makes it easier on your budget when you have multiple people pitching in for the costs of tents, food, and other camping supplies. If the idea of sleeping in a cramped tent on with only a few layers of fabric between you and dirt is the last thing you want to do, you can always go for your version of the popularized “glamping” trend.

Get everyone to pitch in to rent an RV for your camping trip, or even reserve a cabin in the woods so that you can enjoy camping in your own way. Renting out a cabin with friends can be just as fun as the traditional tent option, if not more fun, depending on your group’s preferences. You can still enjoy the nature surrounding your cabin by venturing out on hikes during the day and have the benefit of having a roof over your head and a warm bed to slip into at the end of a long day.

Summer vacation only comes around once a year, and it’s important to take the proper time to let yourself recuperate from the stress of the academic year while treating yourself for all the effort you put into the school year. Whether this means packing up for some much-needed time back at home for summer, or heading to a vacation spot for a couple of weeks – remember that there is no right or wrong way to spend your summer vacation.
